Team

The IMB is part of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at RWTH Aachen University. The institute currently employs 21 research assistants, 17 non-scientific employees, 4 trainees and about 24 student assistants. Professor Claßen is head of the institute since August 2023.

News

On March 6, 2024, the on-site review of Transregio 280 took place in preparation of the second funding period.Thanks to the excellent cooperation of all those involved, we were able to prepare a presentation of our joint and diverse research that could not have been more professional. With a uniform ID, informative posters, demonstrators, small test stands and, finally, the team spirit of all those involved, we were able to convince the reviewers and DFG representatives - a very good precondition for the DFG's decision on further funding, which will be made at the end of May.

History

Today's IMB - Chair and Institute of Structural Concrete - was founded in 1933/34 under the name "Laboratory for Cement and Concrete". From 1941/42 it was renamed "Institute of Structural Concrete".

In 1971, the "Institute of Structural Concrete" and the "Chair of Structural Analysis" emerged from the Chair of "Structural Concrete including Structural Analysis of Concrete Constructions".

We are currently looking for research assistants in various research areas. The salary is based on the agreement of the federal states, the positions are rated at EG 13 TV-L. We are also always looking for trainees and technical staff for our laboratory.

CBI

Innovations and their implementation are often tedious processes in the construction industry. Particularly in structural engineering and infrastructure construction, "tried and tested" methods are often used. As part of the Construction Cluster on the RWTH Aachen Campus, the Center Building and Infrastructure Engineering (CBI) works with industry to exploit trends and implement innovations and technology transfers more efficiently and quickly. In addition, the CBI is involved in a faster transfer to regulations and approvals, as standardization and approval processes continue to hinder the transfer from the laboratory to the construction site.
